Where we are
Othona at Bradwell, Essex is in a beautiful, remote corner of Essex, tucked behind the sea wall, on the estuary of the River Blackwater. Nearby is St Peter's Saxon chapel and the sand and shell beach is 400 metres away. Othona borders a salt-marsh bird sanctuary and our fields, wood, ponds and hedges are home to many animals.
Directions
By Road
First-time visitors should consult a map! However, here are directions from the A12, which joins the M25 at Junction 28. From coming off the A12 to arriving at Othona is 25 miles of country roads & takes around 1 hour:
On the A12 from London, pass Chelmsford and leave at the A414 to Danbury. Take the 3rd exit off the 1st roundabout (right), then go over the 2nd roundabout (signed to Danbury). At the end of Danbury is a big roundabout (Maldon on left). Go straight over, continue past New Hall vineyard. When you get to a major T-junction, go right, then left at the mini-roundabout towards Latchingdon. Drive through this village and at the next mini-roundabout, take the left exit to Bradwell. The road twists for 10 miles through Mayland and Steeple. When you reach a junction with a turning to Tillingham on the right & Bradwell ahead, you are app. 3 miles away. At Waterside garage, turn right towards Bradwell village (if you fail to do this, you will end up at the marina). When you get to the church, turn right into East End Road. After about 1.5 miles turn left into East Hall Farm which has a blue plough and a pond in the front. Follow the track round to the right, behind the farm. We're at the end of it.
