Othona—Your Place on Planet Earth
2010 will mark a milestone of Othona at Bradwell as we complete our solar building. During this week, speakers with environmental expertise will lead us into exploring the joys and responsibilities of our Centre and our place on the Planet.
On the Sunday and Monday, Professor John Parker, Director of Cambridge University Botanic Garden, and a plant geneticist with special interest in the genetics of evolution, will talk on the theme of ‘Crops Past, Present and Future’. He will examine how plants have evolved, how they are evolving and how they might evolve in the future, and further explore the relevance of plant evolution to the growing challenge of feeding the world.
On the Wednesday, Thursday & Friday -
Alex Menhams – from EEDA, the grant making organisation which provided half the money for our new building, will talk about green issues and energy conservation.
Climate Camp – a talk about the organisation of a Climate Camp followed by a debate on the value of such protests.
Kevin Whyte – from ZEDfactory, the architect of our solar building, will talk about zero emission developments for which the firm is renowned and the features of our building.
