Power

Wind Turbine This project which cost £36,000 was fully funded from two separate grants. The installation of the turbine was completed in July 2009 and is now fully functional. The electricity generated by the turbine is connected to our system to charge the batteries thereby considerably reducing the demand on our generator.
Our site is about 1km from the nearest grid connection, thus a connection to the grid would be expensive and so we are 'off grid'. We have a 10kw gas powered generator, a 48volt 1000Ah flooded lead-acid battery, a Sunny Island 5048, 2 Windy Boy 2500, and an Iskra AT5 wind turbine. We hope to add PV soon. We try to have all energy efficient appliances. On days with constant wind the turbine will supply all our needs and the generator will run on calm days.
Here is a link to the Sunny Portal website this contains the data from our wind turbine.
Photovoltaic Systems. These systems use solar energy for the production of electricity. We have applied for grants to place such systems on the existing building and on the new building. These grants are still outstanding.
