Back to Vacancies

Looking for a challenge, a career-break or just a different way of life? The Othona Community might be able to offer you just the answer. Othona Bradwell is, above all, a place of welcome to all kinds of people with all kinds of requirements and needs. It is a place of simple living in tune with the environment.

We are seeking a long-term staff member (6 - 12 months initially) from April / May 2011 onwards to be appointed to the key role of Community Cook Co-ordinator. You will have experience in cooking / catering and be able to plan, organise and deliver meals for 6 to 60 people with help, as appropriate, from willing volunteers. The kitchen is at the heart of the life at Othona Bradwell and has a well deserved reputation of providing quality basic meals with flair, imagination, good spirit and warmth to all.

In addition, you will be key member of the staff team and will help the resident Warden in the overall organisation and running of the Community on a day to day basis. You would also be expected to play an active part in the daily cycle of life at Bradwell.

This is a residential appointment and the ability to work as part of a team, to live in harmony with other core staff, to relate to and making welcome our visitors and to have a positive, "can do" attitude are essential. The Community site is located in the middle of farm land and is immediately adjacent to the sea wall and beach. The site is remote being some two miles from the nearest village. Public transport from the village to larger towns with rail links is available but limited.

What we offer in return

  • Simple accommodation in our staff house, with all meals included.
  • A modest weekly payment to support you in this Intentional Community life.
  • Flexible hours with 2 days off per week
  • The chance to play a key role in developing community with our Committees and Volunteers.
  • Opportunities for your personal growth and development
